Alpha Phi
Our Philanthropy
One of the most important aspects of being a member of Alpha Phi is having the opportunity to give back to the community. As a chapter, we place a strong emphasis on philanthropy & service, as well as the importance of women helping women. Here at Alpha Phi, we take pride in showing our love for our philanthropy.
Whether it is hosting our own philanthropy events, such as Pie A Phi and Heartthrob, or volunteering with our local American Red Cross, we always strive to give back to the community and support a variety of important causes.
The Upsilon Chapter has a strong passion for donating time to our local community. We have relationships with multiple local organizations and dedicate our time and service to them throughout the year. Our local philanthropy is the Topeka, KS, branch of the American Heart Association. Our chapter completed a total of nearly 900 hours of community service during the 2025-2026 school year.
In addition to our Philanthropy, Alpha Phi is also connected by a common set of ideals. Offering a bond of sisterhood, a spirit of generosity, high expectations for character, and a drive for innovation, these characteristics define what it truly means to be a member of Alpha Phi.

At Alpha Phi, community service is something that truly means a lot to our chapter, and one of the newest traditions we’ve started that has quickly become very special to us is visiting the residents at Oak Creek Senior Living. During these visits, our members assemble thoughtful gift bags and spend time sitting with residents, talking with them, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
While the goodie bags are a small gesture, the time we spend together is what truly matters. These visits allow us to provide companionship and meaningful social interaction, which many residents deeply appreciate. At the same time, our members benefit greatly from hearing their stories, sharing laughs, and building genuine connections.
What began as a simple act of service has quickly grown into something much more meaningful for our chapter. The residents at Oak Creek have become people we hold close to our hearts, and our visits are something our members look forward to each time. Experiences like this remind us that community service is not just about giving back; it’s about building relationships, showing compassion, and creating moments of kindness that make a lasting impact on everyone involved.

Heart Health Month takes place every February, and Alpha Phi Upsilon dedicates an entire week to advocating and fundraising in support of women’s heart health.
One of the highlights of philanthropy week is Heartthrob, an event that adds an exciting and meaningful dimension to the cause. During this lighthearted competition, fraternity members and campus leaders showcase their talents, personalities, and commitment to heart health. In the weeks leading up to the event, contestants raise money and awareness by sharing personal stories and encouraging others to get involved. The final show brings the community together for an entertaining night, while emphasizing the powerful mission behind it.
Together, Hoops for Heart and Heartthrob reflect the true spirit of service and sisterhood. These events not only generate vital funds but also educate students about the importance of heart health, inspiring them to take action. By turning competition and entertainment into opportunities for impact, Alpha Phi continues to support women’s hearts—both physically and emotionally—during Heart Health Month and beyond.
